Agents of Influence is a spy-themed media literacy game developed by Alterea. The first episode of the game can be accessed for free online.
Summary:
“Agents of Influence” is a Cold War-era term referring to spies who were sent behind enemy lines to spread disinformation. This game reclaims the term by teaching people they have agency (the ability to make smart, informed decisions for themselves) and influence (their decisions impact others).
Designed to teach all people to read carefully, the game teachers players to think about the impact of their decisions online, and be more respectful and engaged citizens. The game develops skills in research, analysis, respectful conversations and responsible decision-making.
Fun and valuable for anyone to play, Agents of Influence has been designed particularly for students ages 11-16. The game has received funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
The game creators have also developed a lengthy, but comprehensive guide that provides a in-depth look at the design of a disinformation games as well as includes a lesson plan, useful prompts to further discussion around disinformation and extended educational resources.
